Taking Pictures that Move You
Photography & critical storytelling – an introductory workshop.
Young creatives (12-16) are invited to join this workshop and debate the theme of critical storytelling in the context of photography while walking the streets taking pictures. The pictures will be developed and a crit session will be conducted afterwards. Walkabout in Stellenbosch Central, followed by a critique session at the Makers Studio at the Rupert Museum.
Meet the Artist:
Mpumelelo Buthelezi is an award winning photo-journalist and documentary photographer from Johannesburg whose project, E’Plazini, asks questions about the nature of ‘work’ in relation to informal waste collection. “What counts as work? What is ‘important’ work, and who is dignified through that work?” South African cities – like yours – remain exploitative, exclusionary, and classist, with little regard for those struggling in the margins that hold the centre together.
